Our Core Values

Meet Our Team

With more than 4 decades in the construction industry, it is hard to find members of the Kitchener Waterloo construction industry who haven’t heard of Martin Sonnenberg. From its beginnings as Sonnenberg Masonry, Martin quickly grew his sole proprietorship into a trusted group of high-functioning internal team members and a network of passionate contractor partners. The breadth of Martin’s experience is unparalleled: working on everything from new home builds, renovations, and commercial projects of all shapes and sizes. Having lived and breathed the industry for so many years, Martin is delighted to now be able to work closely with his son; passing along his knowledge to the next generation of Sonnenberg home builders. A sailor at heart – and not yet content to hang up his captain’s hat – Martin lives by the adage: “A ship at port is safe, but that is NOT what ships are for.” He takes pride in having learned the trade from his father, working as a laborer and later a partner in the business before going out on his own. Working in this trade for over 25 years, he was presented with an opportunity to work as Global Building Manager for locally founded ATS. After several years of building factories all across North America, Martin shifted gears to the residential construction industry where he found a niche building high-end custom homes across Ontario for a wide range of clients, as well as commercial new construction and renovations. Martin’s extensive experience in all facets of the construction industry has allowed him, and Sonnarc Homes to be one of the most dynamic, and experienced builders in the region.

Tyler grew up around construction and – as soon as he was old enough to get a part time job – it was natural that he would join dad; doing odd jobs on Martin’s construction sites. This ‘sweat equity’ helped him pay his way through to a college diploma in Automotive Business Management at Georgian College. From there, Tyler held various positions within the automotive industry: running national marketing events and representing various global automotive brands. His great love of cars, however, was not enough to tempt him away from his first passion for long and Tyler soon found himself re-entering the family business. Tyler prides himself on the same ‘sweat equity’ that defined his early years with the company: immersing himself in all elements of the construction industry. At the same time, his experience in in marketing and business management has shaped Sonnarc into an efficient and effective organizational machine.

Having an eye for design since as long as she can remember, Deanna had the opportunity to turn her passion into a career when she joined a local production builder as a designer for their model homes. Not one to leave her work at the office, you could also find her and her family home featured in Grand Magazine for her stunning Christmas home displays. After cutting her teeth in the corporate world, Deanna struck out on her own, starting Deanna’s Design, which does everything from staging, one-room redesigns to ground up new home design consulting. Her work has taken her across the GTA and delivers against any budget size. Most recently Deanna provides her design consulting services to Sonnarc custom home builds. When she isn’t on the job site or perusing trade shows, she considers anywhere by the water and beside her fur-baby Merlot ‘home’.
